Halloween special: Watching scary movies may burn calories!

Researchers at the University of Westminster have found that you can burn as many as 200 calories while watching scary movies! According to the researchers:

"As the pulse quickens and blood pumps around the body faster, the body experiences a surge in adrenaline... It is this release of fast acting adrenaline, produced during short bursts of intense stress (or in this case, brought on by fear), which is known to lower the appetite, increase the Basal Metabolic Rate and ultimately burn a higher level of calories."

To celebrate, we've compiled our very own top 10 horror films for Halloween. There's something for everyone: classics, thrillers, schlock-fests, gore - even if you're not a fan of  horror films you could chill out with "zombie rom-com" Shaun of the Dead.

Special mention goes to Australian film Wolf Creek, but perhaps you should give this one a miss if you're planning a road trip over the summer!

Without further ado, here are our top 10 favourite horror movies:

All of these films (and more) are available for loan from the AV Lounge in the Main Library.
